My husband and I, both in our 60's and wanting to see a shuttle launch before the shuttle is retired, have tickets for the 2/7 launch at 4:39 a.m. I'm having second thoughts about going as the middle-of-the-night launch is going to be a hardship for us. So I was surfing the web to get some inspiration from someone who had been there. Your wonderful, colorful accounting is all I needed! Thanks so much for posting.

That's pretty dang awesome. I won't lie. It's a popular story in my family that for one of the science fairs my dad won, he got a free ticket to the Apollo 13 launch. Unfortunately, he was a poor farm boy and couldn't afford the plane tickets to get to the launch...so I guess the moral of my story is that you're lucky you could afford to stay and see it! :)

That looks like it was awesome! I've been watching the tv show "Defying Gravity" and it makes you want to be an astronaut even more...I wonder if they got funding from NASA now that I think about it. hmm
